Photo Feature: Halau Kiawekupono O Ka Ua at Carleton
The male dance troupe Halau Kiawekupono O Ka Ua presented an evening of authentic traditional Hula dance and music in the Carleton College Weitz Center for Creativity Auditorium on Saturday, April 7. Our student photographers were on hand to capture this unique and exciting event.

Photo Feature: Family Day at the Weitz Center
As part of Carleton's spring term exhibit, “Our Treasures: Highlights from the Minnesota Museum of American Art,” the College sponsored a reception and community open house that includes a presentation by the exhibit curator along with a special “Family Day at the Weitz Center,” featuring hands-on art projects, including a museum treasure hunt, and tours specifically designed for elementary age children. “Our Treasures,” is on display in the Braucher Gallery of the Perlman Teaching Museum until May 8, 2012.

Video Feature: We Speak
A collection of student acts called “We Speak,” celebrates Black History Month and is sponsored by the Black Students Alliance (BSA). Carleton media relations videographer Dan McAlister '13 interviews Beserat Kelati '12 (Houston, Texas) and Robert Mills '12 (Chicago), BSA board members, about the student organization and the purpose of "We Speak" as an event.

While it's been a mild winter in Minnesota during Winter Term 2012, these past few weeks of the term have been bustling with a wide variety of student activities, ranging from the play "Farragut North" to an indoor carnival to the traditional Midwinter Ball. Our media relations student photographers have captured many of these events, and we share those images here.

Video: Farragut North Opens at Weitz Center for Creativity
“Farragut North,” loosely based on Howard Dean’s 2004 Democratic primary campaign, opened this past weekend at the Weitz Center for Creativity. Directed by associate professor of theater David Wiles, the play is billed as “a classic tale of hubris set against a contemporary landscape—about the lust for power and the costs one will endure to achieve it.” Presented by the Carleton Players, a video trailer of the production is available. Tickets for the performance, which continues February 24-25, are available online.

Video Feature: Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theater Performance
The Stuart Pimsler Dance & Theater (SPDT) performed at Carleton on Friday, Jan. 6, kicking off the winter term programming in the Weitz Center for Creativity. Dan McAlister '13 interviewed Stuart Pimsler, who also talked about the collaborative class he taught at Carleton during the winter term, which brought politics and dance together in a unique but interesting cross-disciplinary way, and showed footage of the company's performance in the Weitz Center Theater. The performance was supported by funding from the Minnesota State Arts Board and the Legacy Amendment.

Dan McAlister '13 checks in with the Carleton Student Experimental Theater Board and their 24-Hour Show project. The team of students writes, casts, rehearses and performs a series of plays in a 24-hour time period, making for some interesting, creative work and a sleep-deprived group of Carls.

Photo Feature: Ebony II
Student photographer Maria Kjellstrand '15 covered Ebony II, giving us an inside view of the ever-popular Carleton event. Ebony II is a student-run dance company open to beginners, experienced dancers, and everyone in between. All dance styles are welcome, and each term the company performs student choreography in a performance open to the entire campus (and attended by most of campus, too).

Video Feature: Tour of Perlman Teaching Museum, Sneak Preview of Winter Term Exhibits
Laurel Bradley, director and curator in the Perlman Teaching Museum and senior lecturer in art and art History, gives us a tour of the Weitz Center for Creativity's museum space. She talks about exactly what it means for Carleton to have such a facility and gives us a sneak preview of the two winter term exhibits. “A Complex Weave: Women and Identity in Contemporary Art” is on display in the museum’s Braucher Gallery through March 11, while the Kaemmer Family Gallery hosts “Running the Numbers: Portraits of Mass Consumption" at the same time.

Women's Rugby Club Caps Undefeated Season with First National Title
The Carleton College women’s rugby team captured its first national title, pulling away from Lock Haven University (Pa.) 59-7 in the title game of the National Small College Rugby Organization's (NSCRO) Division 3 Women's Collegiate Championships to cap an undefeated season. Women’s rugby is the fourth different Carleton club sport to claim a national title. Arden Caffrey ’13 (Waynesville, N.C.) was named the tournament's most valuable player
