The Carleton College Jazz Ensembles will perform their fall concert on Sunday, November 1 at 3 p.m. in the Carleton College Concert Hall. The program will feature music ranging from the Big band era to modern compositions. This event is free and open to the public.
The concert will be directed by Carleton College senior lecturer in jazz and blues guitar, David Singley. The Jazz Ensemble will perform, among other pieces, “Some Kind a Blue” by saxophonist Ernie Watts, “Three 4 Bea” by trombonist and University of Minnesota faculty member Dean Sorenson, “Groovin' High” by the late, legendary bebop trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie and “Li'l Darlin’” by jazz trumpeter Neal Hefti. The concert will include an original composition by David Singley, "The Last Mile,” as well as his arrangement of the old standard “These Foolish Things.”
Singley received his B.M. from the Berklee College of Music and his M.M. from Indiana University. He is an active performer in both the jazz and pop worlds, and has performed in the orchestra pit of numerous Broadway shows including The Lion King, Chicago and Hairspray. Singley has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Minnesota Opera Company, and has appeared on National Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion. His 1997 solo CD How My Heart Sings is available at many retail and online outlets, including the Carleton Bookstore.
