What are my banking options in Northfield?

The banks available are Community Resource Bank, First National Bank, Premier Bank Minnesota, TCF National Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank. Not all of these banks are in walking distance of the campus, but with a car, are within five minutes.
Where do I get my books?

You will be able to purchase textbooks, manuals, and all necessary materials for your classes at The Calreton Bookstore located in the Sayles-Hill Campus Center. Most instructors hand out a list of required texts the first day of class; the bookstore also has a complete listing of required and recommended texts for each course. You can also order or look up the textbooks for your classes on the bookstore's website at www.carletonbookstore.com. Just follow the textbook links.

You can also call the bookstore with questions at 800.799.4148 or email them at bookstore@carleton.edu. If your placement in certain courses (i.e., foreign language) will not be definite until early in the term, it is advisable to delay purchase of these textbooks until exact placement and registration have been confirmed.

Are freshman seminars offered Fall term only? Can I take more than one?

Most freshmen seminar courses are offered only during fall term. However, there are a limited number of courses offered during the winter and spring. Yes, you can register for more than one freshman course, but it is recommended that you do not take more than on per term. Most of the 100-level seminars are not graded but scrunched (S/CR/NC). Taking a scrunched and a graded seminar at the same time is OK.

Are there any hotels within walking distance of campus?

The Archer House—which is located downtown on Division Street, two blocks from Johnson House, the admissions building—is the closest hotel to Carleton’s campus. Another close hotel is the Country Inn, located on Highway 3, about 4 blocks from campus. If family members plan to stay in either of these hotels, you will not need a car to get to campus. For more information about hotels, maps, and dining opportunities, check out the Northfield Chamber of Commerce website: http://www.northfieldchamber.com.
