Carleton’s academic quiz team shows early promise

Carleton’s academic quiz team, coached by College Archivist Eric Hilleman, has shown early promise this year. At the Grinnell Undergraduate Tournament, Carleton entered four teams in a 16-team field and swept the trophy positions, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Carleton entered five teams in a 15-team field at the Minnesota Undergraduate Tournament and finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th. Hilleman says, “Clearly, at the moment we have no real competition in our local area when playing undergrad-only events. We will have sterner tests at upcoming tournaments competing against teams with some very experienced grad students, and at competitions drawing from teams outside [our region].” In spring 2005, Carleton was runner-up for the undergraduate national championship, which the college team previously won in 1999.
