Carleton Student One of 30 in Nation to Receive Gilder Lehrman History Scholarship
Carleton College junior Dustin Goldberger ’11 (Creve Coeur, Mo.) is one of thirty students in the nation to have been accepted to the 2010 Gilder Lehrman History Scholars Program. The program, which supports and identifies top undergraduate majors in American history from around the United States, allows students to participate in an intensive one-week history program in New York City this June.
Goldberger is the son of Elliott and Donna Goldberger of Creve Coeur, Mo.
“My acceptance to the Gilder Lehrman History Scholars Program was overwhelming,” Goldberger says. “As a history major [at Carleton] I cannot fully articulate how tremendous my experience with the department has been.”
The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History is a nonprofit organization founded for the purpose of improving and enriching American history education through programs for teachers, students, and amateur ethusiasts. Since 2003, 225 college sophomores and juniors have participated in the Gilder Lehrman History Scholars Program, many of whom have continued onto graduate studies in history at institutions including Harvard University, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Columbia University, Yale University, the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA), and the University of Michigan.
“I am thrilled to be participating in the Gilder Lehrman program,” says Goldberger, “as it will allow me to pursue my passion for history in the company of some of the most highly regarded scholars in the field.”
