Reason Content Management System

The Implementing Reason CMS with Small Teams and Small Budgets session today went well. Thanks for Steve, Charles, Matt, and Melissa for telling your Reason story.

With a two person web team, and a very short timeline, Beloit College launched its Reason powered website on September 3, 2009.

If you’ve seen the new Admission Site, you may have noticed the new Google Maps-based campus maps we’re using. We created these for a still-ongoing campus map project, but thought they fit well on the Admissions site.

Since the site’s launch we’ve received a few requests for information on the process of creating these maps. I decided to write up a little bit about our process here.

We recently received a request to move an externally hosted site into our local Reason instance. The challenge is that the domain name is supposed to remain outside of the carleton.edu realm. Reason has never supported this natively, though it could be achieved with unpleasant hacks. With Reason 4 Beta 8, this will all change and subdomains and external domains will be fully supported.

Bonus benefit of this work: the reason_package folder will no longer have to be within the web tree.
