Academic Standing Committee

"The Committee shall assist in evaluating the integrity of student academic programs and shall evaluate the academic standing of students at the College when necessary."

This committee, composed of faculty members, administrators, and students, is convened almost weekly by its faculty chair. The committee rules on petitions for exception to academic regulations and reviews the academic progress of students at the end of each term. It also serves as the judiciary in cases of academic dishonesty and library misuse or abuse cases.

Eligibility: Students must be in good academic standing and at least of sophomore status.

Admissions and Financial Aid Committee

"The Committee shall advise the Dean of Admissions on admissions and financial aid issues."

Carleton Responsible Investment Committee

The Committee shall advise the Board of Trustees through the Vice President the College's options for proxy voting and other matters of endowment investment.

College Council

"The mission of the Council will be the development of policies in areas having to do with matters other than educational policy or curriculum. Where appropriate, the Council will make recommendations to the Board of Trustees for action. As the need arises for policy formulation (e.g., a new policy on sexual harassment in the workplace), the Council will establish subcommittees, to consist of members of the Council and appropriate other members of the community, to meet, consult, and produce policy recommendations." --From College website

Committee on Convocation and Common Conversation

"The Committee shall assist in identifying potential convocation speakers."

Meeting time: Once per term

Eligibility: Students-at-Large must be at least sophomores and be familiar with the weekly convocations program.

Committee on Religious Life (currently inactive)

"The Committee shall advise the Chaplain on issues of policy and religious life."

"The Committee shall advise the Dean of Students on issues specifically concerning student life and shall help implement policies passed by the College Council and the Board of Trustees."

Distinguished Women Visitor's Committee

"The Committee shall assist in bringing distinguished female figures to campus."

The Elizabeth Nason Distinguished Women Visitors (DWV) Fund was established in 1970 in honor of Elizabeth Nason, as her husband, John Nason, retired from the Presidency of Carleton. The fund enables prominent professional women to come to campus, exposing students to women who are successful in their careers. Funding decisions are made by the Distinguished Women Visitors Committee comprised of representatives from the faculty, staff, and student body.

Meeting time: As necessary (once or twice per term)

Eligibility: We seek a female student who is interested and willing to provide input for possible speakers, solicit ideas and suggestions from the student body, particularly from groups working with female students, willing to assist with speaker selection, and able to help bring in faculty, staff, and students to hear the speakers. Any female student interested in and able to commit to participating in the overall speaker selection process is welcome. This committee slot may be particularly applicable to a student who participates in any of the female focused campus organizations such as the Collective for Women's Issues.

Education and Curriculum Committee

"The Committee shall function as a hearing and policy formulation committee reporting to the faculty."

The ECC will function as a hearing and policy formulation committee reporting to the faculty. They are responsible for the articulation of educational policy and will receive occasional
reports from those college committees (e.g., Academic Standing Committee) that are primarily concerned with educational or curricular matters. The faculty meeting will be the final voting authority on all matters of educational policy.

Meeting time: Wednesdays, 4:30-6:00pm

Eligibility: Students must be at least of sophomore standing, available at the meeting time, have interest in policy discussions and program assessment. Students of diverse backgrounds preferred.

"This committee shall assist the fifth year ENTS intern and other college faculty and staff on issues of concern to college environmental policy."

Perlman Center for Learning and Teaching Advisory Committee

"The Committee shall work with the Perlman Center for Teaching and Learning to plan a variety of faculty and staff events and discuss programming around issues of learning and teaching."

The committee assists the coordinator by suggesting ideas and providing feedback on the center's programs. The student members on the committee are also liaisons to a student advisory committee for the LTC.

Meeting time: Twice per term

Eligibility: Students need to be interested in working with faculty and staff on issues of teaching and learning at Carleton.
