Request Funding
Need Money? There are a surprising number of places to find funds on campus.
The key to finding funding is to start early! Funds dry up fast and bureaucracy is slow.
Online Forms:
- Request money from Budget Committee. Virtually all requests for funding (for DIF, for student orgs, for individual students) go through Budget Committee. This committee helps Senate allocate money. Requests can be made throughout the year from chartered organizations as well as individual students with well-planned ideas. Budget Committee meets every Thursday night at 9:00pm. Requests are due by the Tuesday prior.
- Request Money from the Alternative Beverage Fund. This fund is administered by the student body Treasurer. It is intended to pay for alternative beverages to alcohol for parties and other events open to the campus. It is not intended for receptions or full meals.
- Request Money from the Third Center Fund. Also administered by the student body Treasurer, the Third Center Fund facilitate events, such as bowling or meals, that include at least one faculty/staff member to every six Carleton students. To understand factors that are assessed in funding Third Center requests, please read the Third Center Policy Guidance Note.
- Metro Arts Access Fund: The program is designed to assist students wishing to defray costs for attending events in the Minneapolis – St. Paul metropolitan area. MAA funding covers the cost of transportation to and from the Twin Cities. Campus Activities handles this fund, make sure to apply at least two weeks ahead of time.
Other sources of funding:
- Students should not contact alumni directly for funding. This can result in alumni withdrawing their contact information from our database, and could erode support for the Alumni Annual Fund, which supports key budget priorities such as financial aid. Carleton wants to encourage and foster student ideas. Deans Wagner and Colwell are happy to help facilitate conversations about funding possibilities through the Colleges various programmatic and departmental budgets.
