Student Group Requested Amount Recommended Amount Rationale
Line Item: Local Bus $7000 $7000 N/A
Lagniappe $5000 $0 Budget Committee would like the following questions answered:
  • What is the cost of printing in different quantities?
  • Who pays for the rest?
  • How many Lagniappes do you have at the end of the year?
  • What percentage of people use the Lagniappes?
  • Price estimates of how much the printing would be to decrease the overall amount?
  • Do we want to fund just the freshman class?
Line Item: Metro Arts Access Fund $5000 $5000 N/A
Line Item: 3rd Center / Alt Bev Fund $4500 $3500 N/A
Line Item: Newspapers (New York Times, etc). $8000 $8000 N/A
Line Item: SASF (Student Activies Scholarship Fund) $13000 $13000 N/A
Line Item: Student Work Study $5568 $5568 N/A
ACT Center: Alt Spring Break $12911 $0 The Budget Committee supports the position that the money that goes towards the Alt Spring Break should be spent within Northfield, or even in Minneapolis. Additionally, fuel costs are high, and the cost per head for this event is high, when looking at the distribution of the student activity fee. Budget Committee is very receptive to a new local proposal for Alternative Spring Break - this may be submitted as a new Budget Request, and discussed as a regular funding item for the ACT Center as an organization.
ACT Center: Operating Funds $12000 $12000 Full Bid.
Club Sports $115000 $105000 As long as there is a moratorium on club sports we will not be increasing our funding as a percentage of our income to club sports. In addition we stipulate that all club sports participants are required to pay a minimum of $40 dollars in dues, if they wish to receive CSA Spring Allocations Funding for their sport. If they choose not to pay club dues, they may come to Budget Committee as a group to receive Special Allocations requests.
American Medical Student Association $437 $360
  • Supplies - This is seed money, and as per the bylaws we don't fund this $0/$77
  • Postage - $30/$30

  • Transportation - $300/$300
  • Stipulation: This event must be advertised to the entire campus.

  • $100/$100, Gas for Lunar New Year
  • $600/$135 for Student made food.
  • $152/$152 Soda, Napkins Plates Utensils
  • $128/$128 Table Cloths

CANOE $13192 $9408
  • Supplies - $700/$1100 - Suggested $700 for supplies. $10 participants pay out of pocket for snowshoes, $6 subsidiezd by the CSA. We cut $400. Ask participants to contribute, and we think it should be the opposite, participants should be asked to contribute the greater amount.
  • Equipment - $1893/$2383 - $800 for climbing gear. We do not want to compromise your safety. $1583 - We're going to give you 2 backpacks, because we think that your phasing out process should be over time. $340 allotted for backpacks, $480 sleeping bags, $120 for 4 sleeping pads, $23 for 3 tarps, $45 and $20 for the trail maps and compasses, and $65 for fuel for stoves.
  • Postage $10/$10
  • Printing / Copying: $5/$15 - this is our maximum for advertising.
  • Transportation: $6800/$7700 - We are not comfortable with funding the Spring Break trip, because we don't think that the student activity fee should be used to fund a small group of students going to an event that doesn't occur when Carleton is in session.
  • Other $0/$1984 - We are $0 bidding this because the WFR course will not reach enough students for the amount of money spent, and it will not be during the academic term when most students are on campus. Despite the listing of your priorities, we are more likely to fund the dogsledding trip because it has more overall appeal, and it is during the academic term We would like you to submit SEPERATE budget requests for EACH of these events, and come to Budget Committee if you want either of them funded.

  • $0 - Carnaval - Carnaval will be funded at the precedent that is set at the next CSA Senate meeting (this coming Monday), please submit a request to Budget Committee at the time of this event - unfortunately we don't have precedent to go by.
  • $0 - Latin Heat - We feel that this event is redundant, and the dance element of Carnaval is repeated here.
