Welcome to my home page. I am an Assistant Professor in the philosophy department at Carleton College and an Affiliate Faculty Member at the Center for Bioethics at the University of Minnesota.
My research is in ethics, with a focus on issues in normative ethics and biomedical ethics, although recently I have been working on a series of papers with my colleague Jason Decker at the intersection of our interests (ethics and epistemology). I also have a (dormant) interest in aesthetics, particularly in the philosophy of music. I received my PhD from The University of Chicago in 2009. If you're interested, you can hear me on the University of Chicago philosophy podcast Elucidations talking about the relationship between nature and ethics.
Along with Mike Hemesath in Economics, I have started The Question (a program modeled after one of the same name at West Virginia University), which aims to engage the Carleton Community in discussion of ethical issues, broadly construed.
Finally, I front a band named The Counterfactuals.
