Travel & Shuttles
Reunion Airport Transport Service
Chartered motorcoach shuttle service is available for $50 round trip ($25 one-way), between the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport (Terminal 1) and Carleton. The cost is applicable for adults and teens only.
Please note that some airlines (Southwest, Icelandair, Spirit, Air Tran, Sun Country) now arrive at the smaller Terminal 2 (formerly the Humphrey Terminal); check your ticket carefully or check with your airline. If you know you are flying into Terminal 2, please be sure to let Alumni Relations staff know before June 1 so we can make special arrangements. The shuttle only stops at Terminal 2 by prior arrangement.
Reservations: You can sign up for the shuttle as part of your Reunion registration, or sign up later (June 1 final deadline) once you know your travel plans. Just download the airport shuttle reservation form, found in the upper right hand corner of this page, and return it to the Alumni Relations Office (fax: 507-222-4445, or alumni-office@carleton.edu).
Schedule: Shuttles are scheduled on Thursday, June 14 at 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m, and Sunday, June 17, 7 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and Noon. If no one has registered in advance for a particular shuttle time, a shuttle will not be provided. Please note that children’s car seats are not available. Remember to allow one hour for travel time between Carleton and the airport.
On arrival at the airport, proceed to the lower baggage claim level and check in at the Carleton information booth near baggage claim #6/door #5 - look for signs and the maize and blue balloons. The airport booth will be set up approximately 30-60 minutes before the first shuttle is scheduled to depart. Carleton student greeters will assist you. If you haven't pre-registered for a shuttle, they can let you know if there's space available.
Commercial Transport Services
The Northfield Metro Express features multiple route times, seven days a week with convenient stop locations at Carleton, St. Olaf, downtown Northfield, Mpls/St. Paul International Airport, and the cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Learn more at www.northfieldlines.com. Be sure to look for the summer, not academic year, schedule.
First Choice Shuttle offers many options for transport from the airport and other destinations: call 866-444-9696 or visit their web site, http://www.youarriveontime.com/
EcoTrans of Northfield advertises that they provide transportation from and to the St. Paul and Red Wing AmTrak stations and the Minneapolis/St. Paul bus stations, in addition to the airport. Call 507-664-3859 to make a reservation (required) or visit www.goecotrans.com for more information. One-way cost is approximately $70.
Missed your shuttle?
If you miss your shuttle, the airport shuttle coordinators will assign you to the next one if space is available. If you miss the last shuttle of the day, your options include taking a taxi (approximately $75 one way), contacting Ecotrans (see above) to see if they have space, or renting a car. As you make your plans, please allow for possible delays. Some years, delays have been caused by thunderstorms in Minneapolis or Chicago. Because of fixed costs, we cannot issue refunds for unused shuttle reservations.
Parking
Parking on campus is limited. Cars may be parked overnight on Northfield streets. On-campus shuttle service will be provided all weekend from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. between Watson Hall and Sayles-Hill, and for special events for the 50th and senior reunion classes.
When you arrive
Registration hours: 3-10 p.m. Thursday; 8 am to 10 pm Friday; 8 am to 5 pm Saturday.
Please go to Sayles-Hill to pick up your registration materials and room assignment, if applicable. If you arrive after 10 pm Thursday or Friday and have reserved housing in advance, there will be a reunion staff member in Sayles-Hill overnight who can provide your room key. (We strongly encourage you to arrive before 10 pm if at all possible, just in case there are any problems with your key or room.) Message boards and reunion attendance lists will be available in Sayles-Hill and in each assigned class lounge.
