Ongoing Resources
*This information is also available on our phone message. To listen to the recording, call extension 5710 (507-222-5710 from off campus).*
Carleton has many resources available to support you if you have been affected by sexual harassment or assault either directly or indirectly. For a helpful outline of each resource, look for the Sexual Assault Resource tree in your Lagniappe, on the back of the “Policies Against Sexual Misconduct” booklet, or on the CAASHA website. Remember that you can use as many of these services as you wish.
Within the Carleton community there are many supportive students who will listen and provide information. These students include your SWAs, RAs, Multi-Cultural Peer Leaders, Chaplain’s Associates and Gender & Sexuality Center Associates. Peer leaders inform their supervisors in non-identifying terms about incidents of sexual harassment or assault that are disclosed to them.
The Gender & Sexuality Center, in the basement of Scoville, offers a safe-space with information that might be of assistance.
CAASHA members are specially trained as advocates, and are the only official group of students on campus that can be fully confidential. We are available at any time to talk. You can reach us on the phone, by email, or in person. We can also accompany you to any appointments you may decide to make. Office hours are scheduled throughout the week in a variety of locations, and are open to everyone. A list of current CAASHA members, our contact information and office hours can be found on our website and on teal signs in bathrooms across campus. If you would rather contact CAASHA more generally, you may leave a message for us by dialing 6 on the main menu of our phone line (507-222-5710). Only current CAASHA advocates will receive these messages. Anyone is welcome to contact a CAASHA member for any reason.
The psychologists at the Wellness Center offer confidential counseling. Marit Lysne, Drew Weis, and Jennifer Gildner are all available to students and can be reached at extension x4080. Let the receptionist know that you are calling about an issue of sexual harassment or assault to ensure that you are scheduled immediately for an appointment. Group support and counseling for women on campus is facilitated by Jennifer Gildner. You can contact her for more information about times and locations.
The Chaplain, Carolyn Fure-Slocum, is also a confidential resource. She can be reached at extension 4003.
Other college officials, including faculty, deans and additional staff, can provide valuable support, but do not have a confidential status. Kaaren Williamsen, Director of the Gender & Sexuality Center, and the Hall Directors, can be safe resources.
If you wish to pursue support from outside of the Carleton community, HOPE Center advocates are available 24 hours a day at 800-607-2330. HOPE Center advocates are professionally trained and are very familiar with legal options available to survivors.
