Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN are a psychedelic noh-wave opera group fusing noise, metal, pop and folk music into a multidisciplinary hyper-orientalist cesspool of 'east' meets 'west' culture clash in giant monochrome paper sets. Check out this great interview with the minds behind the madness, drummer Alaska B and singer Ruby Kato Attwood-->

10 April 2012April 22nd: White Denim w/ Groove Factory
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
Another huge show at the Cave coming up soon is White Denim! This foursome first formed in 2005 while playing in Austin, Texas. In principle, they are a rock band but sometimes display quite a varied style, drawing from many influences, including psychedelic rock, blues, punk rock, progressive rock, soul, jazz, and experimental rock.
To date, they have released five full length albums, the most recent of which is entitled 'Last Day of Summer'. All of them are available for your listening pleasure for free on Spotify.
Check out the video for their song, "Drug", below!
Dinosaur Feathers
1 April 2012April 4th: Dinosaur Feathers w/ Sister Crayon
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
The Cave welcomes Dinosaur Feathers back to their old stomping grounds! Back in the day, Greg and Derek did a capella together at Carleton, but soon moved on to bigger and better things, building up a following in the New York area. Nowadays they call Brooklyn home, making what they like to call “50s/early-‘60s-inspired pop music”. It’s catchy and fun—-sure to make for a great concert. Have a listen on their myspace (linked on the band name).
And don’t forget to download the Dinosaur Feathers Daytrotter Session for free! Do it, do it now.
Opening for Dinosaur Feathers will be Sister Crayon out of Sacremento, CA. In a review of one of their live shows, The Bay Bridged describes singer Terra Lopez's voice as wild and vulnerable--the ghost of a soul singer... "The band uses a combination of live and electric drumming and guileless piano melodies to lay down a steady foundation; over this, Lopez builds and breaks down the songs, nimbly switching between a rap-styled cadence and an operatic, full-throated howl."
Join us for a full night of great music!
Spring Has Sprung!
25 March 2012
April 4th: Chairlift w/ Nite Jewel
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
Get ready to start off Spring at the Cave with a bang! Our first show is indie rock band, Chairlift, out of Brooklyn, NY, consisting of members Caroline Polachek (vocals, tambourine, synthesizer) and Patrick Wimberly (drums, bass guitar, keyboard). These two make music that is, for lack of a better phrase, catchy as fuck, and have been fast gaining followers since their 2008 release, Does You Inspire You. If you haven't heard of them before, be sure to check out 'Bruises' from Does You Inspire You and 'Amanaemonesia' off their newest release, Something.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Cave this Spring for another round of fantastic shows!
Love,
The Cave

February 18th: Asobi Seksu
Doors 9:30pm
Show 10pm
This February the Cave welcomes Asobi Seksu, a dream pop/shoegaze band out of NYC fronted by Yuki Chikudate (vocals/keyboard/sometimes glockenspiel) and James Hanna (guitar/vocals). Often characterized by ethereal, swirling melodies and layers upon layers of synth and effects, Asobi Seksu creates a world of their own both in their performance and the atmosphere that surrounds them. Don't miss it!
Zoo Animal
22 January 2012
January 25th: Zoo Animal w/ Tarlton, The Counterfactuals
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
This Wednesday, the Cave welcomes awesome Minneapolis band Zoo Animal to our humble stage. Lead singer/songwriter Holly Newsom has a wonderful, deep, soulful, gritty, unique voice and is a great live performer to top it all off. Be sure to check out this video from The Local Show on 89.3 The Current. Good thing we've have a hollow stage... :)
We have two openers lined up for this show, Tarlton as well as The Counterfactuals, two Carleton professors from the Philosophy Department. You can stream one of their tunes here. Definitely check it out, it's super sweet.
This will be a great night of fulfilling musical expression at the Cave, I promise.
One oh trix
9 January 2012
January 20th: Oneohtrix Point Never w/ Pillars & Tongues
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
At the end of this month, Oneohtrix Point Never will be gracing the Cave's stage. Daniel Lopatin, a Brooklyn-based musician, is behind the drone-heavy, looping, and electronic bleeps and blurps that make up the backbone of much of Oneohtrix Point Never's music.
Opening for Oneohtrix will be Pillars & Tongues, an amazing band out of Chicago that plays "powerful folk abstractions and interwoven, trance-inducing vocal dynamics" (Alarm Magazine). You can download a few tracks from their bandcamp here.
Below is a video off of their most recent release, Pass & Crossings:
We're really looking forward to this show, and hope to see you there!
Welcome Back to Winter
7 December 2011
January 6th: Volcanoes w/ Wildcat Choir, Prom Queef
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
Starting off this term is Volcanoes from Missouri, "[a] drum and bass duo whose shitkicking noise rock has taken seismic toll on the eardrums of St. Louis' underground enthusiasts. Jon Ryan and Eric Peters are probably the most badass act to come out of St. Charles in quite some time, and definitely the most badass thing to ever come out of Lindenwood University."
-The Riverfront Times (Diana Benanti)
Joined by Wildcat Choir and Carleton band, Prom Queef, this show promises to be a great opener to both the new year and the new term.
Read more about Volcanoes on MFR here, and we'll see you on Friday!
The Melismatics w/ Maudlin
1 November 2011
November 4th: The Melismatics w/ Maudlin
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
The Melismatics are an alternative/indie/pop punk band that got their start in Minneapolis around the turn of the century. They were signed by Susstones Records, releasing their first album "Postmodern Rock", followed by "Turn It On" and "New Infection". They often played alongside Mark Mallman, lending him their energy and unpredictable behavior. Much like an American version of the Sounds, the Melismatics play catchy, euphoric, pop punk that you won't be able to get out of your head.

10 October 2011
October 15th: Mark Mallman w/ The Big Strong Men
Doors 8:30pm
Show 9pm
Minneapolis legend Mark Mallman doesn't need much introduction. His radical live performances and bizarrely epic lyrics speak for themselves. In October of last year, he performed the third of his marathon song concerts, which lasted 78 consecutive hours and included almost 600 pages of lyrics at St. Paul's own Turf Club. During the performance, he injured his foot and ended the whole thing off by biting into a bunch of flowers and spitting them all over the crowd. Seriously, it even made the local news
It's going to be one wild performance. Guaranteed.
