SATURDAY: CSPC PRESENTS SISTER OUTSIDER
Sister Outsider--an award-winning slam poetry duo comprised of Denice Frohman and Dominique Johnson will be at Carleton on April 18 and 19. We are lucky to host them; they've been performing all over the place recently to rave reviews. In addition to their high-octane performance at the Cave on Saturday night (8:00 p.m.; arrive at 7:30 pm for the open mic session), there are two other opportunities to hear from and work with them.
First, on April 18 from 3 - 5 pm, Denice Frohman will be hosting a Q&A about her work (spoken word/poetry, storytelling, social justice, intersectionality, etc.) in WCC 132. This "class" is open to all students.
Second, Sister Outsider will be hosting a workshop titled "What Does It All Mean?" on Saturday April 19 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in LDC 104. The pair describe this workshop as focusing on " language as an agent for change by exploring etymology and the ways in which meaning and definition are often confused. It is more than a dictionary class and more than a vocabulary class. The real conversation is one that connects language and its usage and (misuse) to ideologies, institutions, and social constructs. It seeks to provide educators and students with the necessary tools to understand how language is a step toward understanding the world and ultimately, ourselves." This workshop has limited spaces, so please email firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible to reserve your spot and get a chance to work closely with Sister Outsider.
AS UsUaL, we have FREE COFFEE at the Cave Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7pm-Midnight!!! Come do yr homework or something!!!
