About Us

The Carleton Dance Team is a tight-knit group of people who can never dance quite enough and are dedicated to learning a wide variety of ballroom and latin dances. We focus on improving our dancing technique and encourage our members to participate in ballroom dance competitions. If you're interested, please join us - we do not require that you have any dance experience, nor do you need a partner.

Instruction and Practices

We meet regularly throughout the week to practice, and a professional dance coach, Andrea Mirenda, comes once a week to teach new material. Though you are not required to show up to every practice, it is strongly encouraged that you show up to as many as you can. Each week, we cover a new dance as well as review material from before. This spring term our practices are as follows:

In Cowling:

Open Practice: Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:00-11:00PM

This practice has no set goal - people show up to practice what they would like to practice, and get help from other members on anything they would like help on. At least one officer is there to teach and take attendance.

The Basics: Fridays 3:45-5:15PM

In this practice, we cover some of the fundamentals of Ballroom and latin dancing in the context of learning new dancers. This practice is geared to first-term members in particular, as well as veterans wishing to work on their basics, so we introduce the basics of each new dance and review old material.

Technique: Saturdays 4:00-5:30PM

This practice focuses on techniques and moves, targeted at an intermediate level dancer.  Often, our coach, Andrea Mirenda, teaches this practice.

Bronze: Sundays 4:00-5:30PM

We aim to reinforce moves, techniques and routines learned on Friday and Saturday, as well as have some time to just practice dancing.

How do I join?

It's easy! If you are interested in joining, please contact one of the officers. See the contact page for more information.

Do I need to compete?

Nope. Though we encourage everyone to consider competing as it is a lot of fun, that decision is completely up to you.

Does it cost anything?

Dues are $30 per term. In addition, competing has its own set of costs that vary from competition to competition - we try to make these costs as manageable as possible.
