About Us

The Rugcutters are Carleton's swing dance club. We welcome all styles of swing dancing, but primarily focus on Lindy Hop. We seek to perpetuate this fun and creative style of jazz partner dance and bring a slice of Lindy Hop subculture to campus. If you want to learn more about the origins of swing dance and the various styles of dance, check out the FAQ page.

We have open dance practice on Mondays from 10:00 - 11:00 pm in Weitz Dance Studio 168. Additionally, we sponsor several dances (both formal and informal) on campus, bring in professional instructors, and hold trips to go dancing in the Twin Cities, which has a lively swing dance scene.

Don't know how to dance? We have a weekly lesson on Monday nights from 9:30 - 10:00 pm in Weitz 168 to get you started, followed by open dancing till 11 pm. For more in depth learning, we also offer a swing dance PE class every term, PE 177 Swing Dance.
