About the CSC

On July 4, 2007, two sports enthusiasts found themselves amidst a heated debate on how the soon to be played baseball playoffs would turn out. Eventually the debate became centered around such parameters as VORP (value over replacement player), DICE (defense independent ERA), win shares, and favorite toy. After prolonged debate, no unanimous decision could be made. However, this spirited and passionate debate sparked the basis of what would become the Carleton Sabermetrics Club (CSC).

Upon returning to campus, these two sports enthusiasts set out on a mission to secure a charter for their club. On November 5, 2007, the CSA approved their charter and the Carleton Sabermetrics Club was born. With an initial 12 man roster, the CSC got off to a crawl in Fall 2007 managing to hold 2 technical meetings, meetings in which current player statistics are analyzed, theory is discussed, and members present and defend their personal sabermetric calculations.

Today, the CSC is comprised of 22 dedicated sports fans hailing from 15 different states and finds itself at the forefront of the international movement with members from 7 different countries.

For the upcoming year the club hopes to boost enrollment and participation, raise awareness about the field, and most of all, have fun.
