02/10/2010 - Minutes
Hey SOPE!
Sorry for the minute delay! Here's what we talked about last Wednesday
:)
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1) TONIGHT in the Goodhue Superlounge is an Olympics Opening Ceremony party, sponsored by MPIRG and Green Wars! Head over around 7:30 p.m. for some winter fun, tasty snacks and awesome people!
2) Organics and Hunger talk on Monday at 4 p.m. in the Athenaeum
What:
The growing organic foods movement has led to a substantial increase in the quality of foods for many. At the same time, there are individuals who cannot afford the additional cost of organic foods. The danger then becomes a wider gap in food quality between low-income families and those who can afford organics. Our panel hopes to educate about ways that the organic food movement can create quality food for everyone without increasing income-based disparities in food quality.
Panelists:
Ted Evans, Emergency Food Shelf Network, Twin Cities
Sharon Erickson Ropes, Minnesota Senator and sponsor of Minnesota law requiring organic foods for welfare recipients
Laurie and David Hougen-Eitzman, Owners, Big Woods Organic Farm in Nerstrand, MN
3) My Food Story Panel on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Athenaeum. Sponsored by Food Truth and Green Wars.
have a lovely weekend!
see you
next Wednesday at 9 p.m. in Sayles 251!
