9/22/2010 - Minutes

It's Fay! I'm taking over minutes for Libby this term (our beloved secretary) because she's abroad in Ecuador. And without further ado...here are our minutes from our first meeting!

Introductions:

- We saw a lot of new faces today (yayyy!) so we went around, said our names and where we were from.

Announcements:

- There was a Town Hall meeting

today

in the Great Hall to hear student input on carbon neutrality (the agreement is for by 2050). Many of us SOPErs went, so we discussed the main topics of the town hall meeting. A lot of people talked about what is feasible for us, as current Carleton students since the deadline for carbon neutrality in 2050 is so far away. We also talked about what students and the school as a whole are willing to give up. The notes from this meeting will be online for all who are interested!

- On Monday, Sept. 27 in Boliou 104 at 7:30pm, there will be a speaker talking about Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance.

And most importantly....what is SOPE?!

- We are an enviro-organization on campus focused on sustainability at Carleton. Our Task Forces include:
*PEAR: Publicity, Education, Awareness, Recruitment; interest in maintaining our website? Email SOPE.
*SRF: Sustainability Revolving Fund has already addressed cfl (compact fluorescent lights), lightening in buildings on campus, low-flow showerheads
*Green Bikes: check them out in SAO for a day, we have new bikes we need to paint and fix up!! Interested? No experience necessary – email Alex at longa
*Little Things: suggestions/ideas that students have for improving sustainability at Carleton – check out our board in Upper Sayles by the TV! Really, “little things” is self explanatory :)

We hope to see you

next Wednesday

in Upper Sayles 251 at 9pm for our next meeting!!
