Meet the Wellstones
Paul Wellstone was a Carleton professor who became a U.S. Senator from Minnesota. He was known for his fiery energy, his passion for his constituents, his progressive politics, his grassroots campaigns involving farmers, college students, and the Hmong community, his bright green campaign bus, and his ability to say what he meant. His wife, Sheila, was a major advocate for stopping violence against women. Paul and Sheila, as well as their daughter Marcia and some campaign staffers, died in a plane crash on October 25, 2002, just days before the Senate race in which Paul was running for re-election.
The Wellstone House of Organization and Activism is our humble tribute to Paul and Sheila Wellstone. We hope to carry on their legacy of grassroots organization and activism with our work at Carleton and beyond.
