Why did you decide to come to Carleton?

I chose Carleton for a number of reasons, including the small student body size, friendly people, a great biology department and the open atmosphere. The fact that there is also a varsity synchronized swimming team made it even better.

How do you maintain a balance between sports and other activities at Carleton?

It's very important to learn time management. You want to join a couple activities, but it's definitely more important and much more fun to be dedicated to what you are doing than join lots of clubs and not even remember why. I also do Ebony II, a huge dance group for everyone from beginners to real dancers, that puts on a huge show every trimester which is a serious highlight of Carleton.

What's usually involved in a practice?

In a typical practice we will start off with some land strengthening and stretching, followed by a swimming warm-up. We usually have rotating stations for figures so
everyone gets a chance to watch someone and be watched, and of course we spend plenty of time on routines. It's also encouraged to lift weights a couple days a week.

Does your team have any special traditions you can tell us about?

In the Cowling pool where we practice, there is a sign that says "No Running" with this very happy, short-limbed man. His name is Hans, and he's kind of our mascot. Other traditions are a secret.
