Text Blurbs

Managing Text Blurbs:

What's a Text Blurb?

Text blurbs ("blurbs" for short), are reusable pieces of content that can be placed on multiple pages. This is useful for information you might want to repeat in multiple places on your site, but you don't want to have to update in several areas.

The default location for text blurbs is in the left column of the page, under the site's navigation area. Text blurbs can also be placed elsewhere on a page—even in the main content area. Contact your web administrator for further information on using text blurbs in other page locations.

Adding Blurbs to Your Site

  1. Click Text Blurbs from the Content Types Menu.
  2. Click Add Text Blurb.
  3. In the Title field, give your text blurb a title. This is only visible inside Reason, so choose a title that will help you find this blurb later.
  4. In the Content field, enter your blurb's content. You can use all the same formatting features that are available when editing a page, but remember: since blurbs are typically placed in a skinny column, they look better and are easier to read when they are brief.
  5. If you know who wrote this content, enter the authors name in the Author field. It's OK to leave this field blank if you don't know. It's mainly there to help you or another maintainer of the site remember who to contact if the blurb needs to be updated later.
  6. Click Save and Continue Editing.

Editing Blurbs

  1. Click Text Blurbs from the Content Types Menu. (See also: Inline Editing)
  2. Click Edit in the row corresponding to the blurb you want to edit.
  3. Make your desired changes.
  4. Click Finish.

Advanced Technique: You can also edit a blurb while editing a page to which the blurb is attached. On the page editing page, click Place Blurbs, then Edit a blurb that's attached to the page.

Attaching Blurbs to a Page

You can attach a blurb to a page while editing a page, or while editing the text blurb.

While editing a page

  1. Click Pages from the Content Types Menu.
  2. Click Edit in the row corresponding to the page you want to blurbify.
  3. Click Place Blurbs in the left sidebar menu.
  4. Click Select in the row corresponding to the blurb you want to place.  (To remove an already attached blurb, select Deselect).  Select as many blurbs as you'd like to appear on the page.
  5. Click Finish.

While editing a text blurb

  1. Click Text Blurbs from the Content Types Menu.
  2. Click Edit in the row corresponding to the blurb you want to attach.
  3. Click Place on Pages from the left sidebar menu.
  4. Click Select in the row corresponding to the page on which you want to place this blurb. (Scroll down to look at the pages on your site.)  You can place this blurb on as many pages as you'd like.
  5. Click Finish from the left sidebar menu.
  6. Check your work. Go to the public site to look at the pages you selected — they should now have the blurb on them.

Advanced Technique: You can create a blurb and attach it to a page all in one step:  Site Admin Page > Pages > Edit > Place Blurbs > Add Text Blurb.
