Knights Gauntlet

This fall Carleton hosted the Knights’ Gauntlet, a four-mile race through the Arb with 16 obstacles, such as jumping over a mud pit, swinging on a rope, and carrying logs. The race was open to community members as well as Carleton and St. Olaf students and staff members, and the registration fees were donated to the Northfield YMCA. Teams of up to four runners—many wearing costumes—competed for prizes donated by Northfield businesses.

Lauren Girard (pictured), a Faribault kindergarten teacher, embraced the spirit of the race. Competing on a team dubbed “My Cows!” Girard’s favorite obstacle was, somewhat predictably, the ‘cow tipping’ station, where teams pushed over tractor tires painted like cows.
