The abatement and demolition work is on schedule and the contractor is starting excavation for the new addition footings. More noticeable on campus and leading to the building site is the extension of the campus electrical service and distribution system.

Board of Trustees Approves Arts Union Construction Phase Start
May 28, 2010 at 1:15 pmAt their recently completed meetings in mid-May, the Carleton College Board of Trustees gave its approval to begin the Arts Union project construction phase. Since that time, many of our neighbors and Northfield community members have noticed a flurry of activity at the site of the former Northfield middle school. The construction schedule calls for work to start on the 1950s wing the first week in June, ending by July 8. The project’s first phase will close out with footings and foundations being poured at the gallery and entrance during most of August.
Carleton Updates Arts Union Project, Others for Spring, Summer

Carleton Announces Weitz Family Foundation Pledge Towards Arts Union
February 15, 2010 at 1:44 pmCarleton College has announced that the family of Wally (’70), Barbara (’70), Katie (’96), Roger (’99), and Drew (’02) Weitz and their spouses Watie White (’93), Kate, and Meredith (’02) has pledged $15 million towards the completion of the College’s Arts Union project, located at the site of the former Northfield middle school. The $15 million gift is part of the Weitz Family Foundation’s challenge to Carleton’s Board of Trustees. Once the trustee challenge is completed by Carleton’s board, triggering the additional $15 million gift, the Weitz family would become the largest single, family donor in College history at $25 million.

August 4, 2009 at 11:45 amCarleton College recently published the results of a special Neighborhood Impact Study (NIS), launched as part of the College’s ongoing planning for its new Arts Union. The study solicitated and encouraged public input regarding the project, and its potential impact on the neighborhood surrounding the campus. The effort reflects Carleton’s desire to maintain open lines of communication between the College and its neighbors, ensuring that the project is a success for the College as well as the Northfield community.
