Ron Rodman, Dye Family Professor of Music, recently had his article “Dinah Shore’s TV Legacy” featured in the March 28 edition of Oxford University Press Blog. The article chronicles the rise of television’s female pioneer, Dinah Shore. As told by Rodman, after Shore achieved radio success for her vocals, she made the move to television and became the only female singer with her own talk show. She eventually went on to win Emmy Awards for Best Female Singer, Best Female Personality, and Best Actress in a Musical or Variety Series.

The article comes from Rodman’s recent book, Tuning In: American Television Music published by Oxford University Press in 2010. The publisher’s blog has featured several articles by Rodman, which tell the narrative of the intertwining relationship of music and television in past 50 years and spotlights many of their most influential characters.
