A Birthday Party 150x Better than Mine
Ever heard of the term "sesquicentennial?" We hadn't either until Carleton's 150th birthday party this weekend.
Ever heard of the term "sesquicentennial?" We hadn't either until Carleton's 150th birthday party this weekend.
After hearing for almost two months about the sesquicentennial (which I only learned how to pronounce this week) to celebrate Carleton’s 150th anniversary, the weekend finally arrived. The celebration was such an awesome way to destress after midterms and see parents. Even though my family couldn’t fly into Northfield I didn’t feel isolated because the weekend was filled with comedy showcases, cultural dances, a free donut stand, a ferris wheel, carousel, and live music on the Bald Spot!
On Saturday, my roommate and his mom invited me into Minneapolis with them where we kayaked along the Mississippi River and ate a fantastic Spain-inspired burger. Later that day, many of my friends gathered in the big tent at the Bald Spot to dance and meet everyone’s parents. An hour after people got together in various parts of campus to watch a spectacular firework show.
My weekend didn’t end after everyone’s parent’s left because one of my best friends from Tucson flew out to see me and hang out with my friends!!! I introduced him to Sayles, where we shared a chicken tender sandwich and watched political satire videos with some of my friends. Afterwards we attended a Firebellies & CANOE bonfire where we toasted s’mores and accessorized with various things like Nutella, chocolate, and chili powder.
With the events and festivities that filled campus this weekend, I felt a deep pride in my college and proud that parents, families, and prospective students have been exploring everything we have to offer. I occasionally miss small things about home, like the homemade Mexican food, hiking in the mountains, and midnight coffee shops, but there are certain things unique to Carleton that will never compare.
Stay cute,

That said, his interests include rock climbing, foreign films, and vegan/vegetarian cooking (and is always looking for treats in his mailbox).
