Before coming to Carleton, I had never been introduced to the “Rose, Bud, Thorn” activity. It’s a reflection activity that would often happen at the beginning of our study breaks last year (I also lived on a heavily freshmen floor.) We would do ours within the context of the week, so the Rose was something good that had happened, the Bud was something we were looking forward to, and the Thorn was something not so great that had happened.
Now that we’re smack dab in the middle of the 10 week term, I’m going to do a Rose, Bud, Thorn type of thing (for the past 5 weeks).
Rose(s):
- The weather has been not too menacing! Except that one week and one super icy day.
- I’ve gone to some really cool talks on campus, including but not limited to this talk by Michael Tubbs and this talk by Camisha Russell.
- My Race & Ethnicity class. Highly recommend taking.
Bud(s):
- Midwinter ball – look out for a photo series next week.
- I am really looking forward to this week being over. Midterm week is never fun.
- I’m also looking forward to Jamila Woods’ performance at the Cave on Friday.
Thorn(s):
-
This week is really busy and stressful! Like I said, midterm week is never fun.
- The 20 or so times I’ve almost fallen because of the sneaky ice.
- Inauguration.
