Carleton’s online Academic Calendar usually provides a string of pdfs documenting dates to remember. For my first blog post of the year, I’m doing the same thing through a personal lens.
Event | Date | What is this? |
---|---|---|
International Student Orientation (ISO) Begins | Aug 31 | I was actually on campus for ISO this year due to a preseason job with PEAR I worked this summer. My RA and OPL friends, who help ISO happen, actually arrived a week after my job started, so I had the chance to hang out with them before the rest of the student body arrived and Fall Term started. |
NSW Begins | Sep 7 | So! Many! Freshman!! Almost a little overwhelming seeing all the new faces at first – probably because I still don’t feel like a sophomore – but I’m so excited for all of you to start your undergraduate adventures!! Welcome, 2021ers!!! |
Classes Begin | Sep 11 | Week 1 of 10, I was deciding between Constitutional Law, Chinese Foreign Policy, and Environmental Anthropology. I ultimately decided on the anthropology course. I’m also taking Perception of Drawing, a prereq for an off-campus Studio Art program I’ll be attending over winter break, and Intro CS. |
Activities Fair | Sep 15 | Finally finished the banner for Firebellies yesterday (drawing can be time-consuming when you’re a one-woman team). I’ll be manning the booth for Carleton Art Society (CAS)! |
1st Cave Dance | Sep 15 | So many exciting things are happening 1st Weekend! Konfettitanzen is the theme for this dance at the Cave, a student-led music and entertainment venue on campus. |
Apple Picking | Sep 22 | SAO, the Student Activities Office, sponsors this event to Fireside Orchard every year. I didn’t go last year and I’m hoping to pick apples with my friends this year! |
Mid-term Break | Oct 16 | To mark the passing of half of the term, we get Monday, Oct 16 off! It’s like hump day – for the entire trimester. |
Post-Synchrony II Cowling Dance | Oct 21 | Last spring, I started DJing at student dances, social gatherings, and even at a venue in town. This fall, I hope to continue sharing my playlists with the Carleton community! |
Reading Days, Exam Days, Break Begins… | Nov 15+ | I already have so many fun things I plan on doing this fall that I’m going to stop at the stressful things here… |
To sum things up, I didn’t realize I had so many things to say about these events until I actually typed out my thoughts, but I hope you enjoyed reading about the start of Fall ‘17 “At a Glance.” I know I perused Carleton’s website as a prospie and lived vicariously through videos, blogs, and other social media concerning the Carleton experience. Even if you’re not a prospie, I hope my ramblings were entertaining!
All the best this fall,
Eve
To the (initial) dismay of her parents, Eve is an aspiring fashion creative seeking to break the starving artist stereotype. When she isn’t drinking coffee at Sayles, the Minnesotan gal can be found wandering the Weitz, browsing memes at the Libe, or reinventing old recipes at Dacie Moses. On campus, she is involved in Firebellies, Karl-Pop, CSA, and Carleton Art Society, among other cool student organizations.
