M.E. “Casey” Jarchow, Men's Golf Coach

From 1950-65, Casey Jarchow coached Carleton's golf team to six Midwest Conference championships. He came to the College in 1946 as associate professor of history and associate dean of men. At the end of the 1946-47 academic year he was named dean of men, a position he held until 1967.

In 1988 Carleton awarded him an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in honor of his outstanding contributions to the College. For many years he maintained an office on campus as historian-in-residence and wrote several historical books, including Carleton: The First Century, the official Carleton history published in 1966, and a biography of past Carleton president Dr. Donald J. Cowling.

Jarchow graduated from Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Minn., and earned his B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. He began his teaching career at South Dakota State, then spent three years in the Navy before coming to Carleton. He died on April 3, 1993 at the age of 82.
