Ragamala Music and Dance Theater's Artistic Director Aparna Ramaswamy '97 and company members Ashwini Ramaswamy '03 and Kim Nguyen '08 invite you to the premiere of Sva (Vital Force), a suite of three pieces that unfold the beauty, elegance, poetry and driving rhythmic complexities of Bharatanatyam, the ancient classical dance of southern India. Sva features live music by New Delhi-based composers/musicians Shubhendra Rao (sitar) and Saskia Rao-de Haas (cello), live drumming by Taiko group Wadaiko Ensemble Tokara of Nagano, Japan, lighting design by Jeff Bartlett, and drawings by New York-based visual artist Terry Rosenberg.
Performances: Thursday-Friday, May 1-2 at 8 p.m.; or Sunday, May 4, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $24 and can be purchased by calling the box office at 612-340-1725.
