The Vassar College and Mt. Holyoke College alumnae associations in Sarasota invite area Carleton alumni to join them in welcoming Catherine S. Manegold ’77.  (Catherine is a professor of English at Mt. Holyoke, and her mother is a member of the Sarasota Vassar Club.)

Catherine S. Manegold is an author, journalist, teacher, and potter. She received a Carleton Alumni Association Distinguished Achievement Award in 2002, and an honorary degree from Carleton in 2007.  In the twenty-five years she worked with The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Newsweek, and other major publications, Manegold won numerous national awards and reported from four continents on subjects as varied as war, politics, the environment, social issues, and U.S. military strategy. After leaving the Times, Manegold turned her attention to long-form nonfiction and teaching. Her first book, In Glory’s Shadow, was published in 2000. Her new book tells the story of 150 years of slavery on a New England estate, the last remnants of which are preserved today at the Royall House, a National Historic Site near Boston.
