Please join Carleton alums, parents and friends for a tour of the Lifelike exhibit with Carleton Associate Professor of Art David Lefkowitz ‘85, whose art is included in the exhibit. The event will begin with David leading the group on a tour of the exhibit and will be followed by a social hour at the Museum Cafe. Meet at front desk no later than 11 a.m.  Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the restaurant.

David Lefkowitz '85 and Associate Professor of Art at Carleton is among the featured artists in Lifelike, on view at the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego-LaJolla March 1 to May 27, 2012.

Organized by the Walkter Art Center in Minneapolis, the exhibit invites a close examination of artworks based on commonplace objects and situations, which are startlingly realistic, often painstakingly rendered, and sometimes surreal. THis international, multigenerational group exhibition surveys over 90 works from the 1960s to the present by more than 50 artists.

Lefkowitz is represented by selections from his 'Fixtures' series of small trompe l'oeil paintings of wall sockets, thermostats, security monitors and other curious artifacts which resemble those found in almost every structure built since the advent of electricity. The paintings will be hidding in plain sight scattered throughout the exhibition and other nooks and crannies of the MCASD.

As part of the additional programming for Lifelike, Lefkowitz will be giving a Gallery Talk on Saturday, April 13 exclusively for the Carleton Alumni Club. Mark your calendars now!

Directions: From Interstate 5 South:  Exit at La Jolla Village Drive. Turn right at the end of the ramp onto La Jolla Village Drive. Turn left at the third traffic signal onto Torrey Pines Road. Travel approximately 4 miles down a long hill and then back up. Turn right at the traffic signal on top of the rise of the road onto Prospect Street. From Interstate 5 North or 52 West:  Exit at La Jolla Parkway. Exit ramps are very long and merge directly into Torrey Pines Road. Travel approximately 4 miles down a long hill and then back up. Turn right at the traffic signal on top of the rise of the road onto Prospect Street.

(MCASD is located approximately one mile down Prospect Street on the right-hand side. Free two-hour street parking is available in front of the Museum and on nearby cross streets.)
