Are you interested or involved in sustainability? Curious to learn more about what fellow Carls are doing in this realm? You'll have a chance to learn more, share your stories and experiences, and enjoy refreshments as we celebrate the arrival of Jim Haughn '83 in Minneapolis. Jim will be biking 600+ miles from his home near Toledo, Ohio to reach his 25th reunion and raise money for a special "legacy gift for sustainability" to the college. SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER
Senator Ellen Anderson - Class of 1982 (History)

Is a senator representing District 66 for the State of Minnesota. In
November of 2008, voters will decide whether or not to approve a
constitutional amendment that would dedicate a percentage of Minnesota's
state sales tax to conserving "clean water, wildlife, cultural heritage,
and natural areas." As Chair of the State's Environment, Energy and
Natural Resources Committee, Ellen has spoken passionately and
persuasively in favor of this amendment. Join us as she provides a brief
update and shares her thoughts about why it's important to have funding
dedicated for this purpose in the "Land of 10,000 Lakes."

FACILITATOR

Sheila E. (Pagelkopf) LeGeros - Class of 1983 (Sociology/Anthropology)

Is founder of Legeros International, a consultancy that enables
multicultural teams to draw upon their wisdom to develop sustainable
strategies for growth and change. Sheila has more than 20 years of
experience working in international business with her career encompassing
a full range of operational, management, and leadership responsibilities -
from project management and customer service to marketing. She has worked
with manufacturers and foreign distributor partners to grow their
businesses together. Sheila facilitates discussions about sustainability
and has volunteered to do this at our party!

David Kelliher - Class of 1986 (History)

Is Director of Government Relations for the Minnesota Historical Society.
In this position, David has worked to promote public policies at the state
and federal levels that will help us gain a better understanding of our
past, including the preservation of historic resources. He will share his
thoughts about the relationship between historic preservation, renovation,
and sustainability.

Jason Lord - Class of 2006 (Studio Art and Economics)
Founder, Green Tree Design Build
"Creating a Sustainable World, One Home at a Time"
Was an Ecohouse participant and Co-Designer of Carleton's First Green
Roof. Jason will talk about how sustainable projects in and out of the
classroom have influenced his "after Carleton" activities.

Stephen Mohring

Professor of Art, Carleton College
Integrates recycled and reclaimed materials into some of his creative
work. Stephen can also provide a faculty member's perspective on
Carleton's Sustainability Revolving Fund and the new Arts Union. He has
conceived of and will oversee a class that uses reclaimed arboretum wood
for art and furniture projects. He also serves on the cross disciplinary
committee overseeing the planning and design of the Arts Union.

Ken Potts - Class of 1983 (Political Science)
Is Director of Sustainability at McGough Companies and was the Co-Chair
of Target Corporation's Stewardship Committee from 2002 to 2005.
McGough is the construction manager and general contractor for Carleton's
Arts Union, which is seeking a LEED Silver Certification. Ken currently
serves on the LEED for Neighborhood Development National Committee that is
establishing sustainable development guidelines and a related rating
system for neighborhoods.

Andrea Schuweiler - Class of 2005 (American Studies)

Is currently working on a master's degree in Natural Resources Science and
Management. She is focusing on sustainable tourism and working on a
Sustainable Energy Solutions Guide for Minnesota Resorts. She will be
sharing information about this project. Check out this recent article to
