A Very Special Holiday Event at the Oakland Zoo

on Sunday, December 2, 2012

Carleton alum and Zoological Education Specialist Sarah Cramer '00 has arranged a day of holiday fun and frivolity for Carleton alumni, parents, families, friends, current students, prospective students and their parents at the Oakland Zoo.

8:45 a.m.— Volunteers Gather and Store Potluck Items

9 a.m.— Volunteer Projects Begin.  Projects are likely to involve landscaping or habitat maintainence.  Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older and must register in advance.

10 a.m.— Zoo Opens.  Zoo Admission is $7 per person, including children, payable by cash or check.  Parking is $7 per vehicle, cash only.  The zoo admission cost does not apply if you attend only the Carleton functions between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

12 p.m. — Volunteer Projects End

12 p.m. — Potluck Holiday Lunch Begins.  Please bring an entrée, side dish or dessert to share.  Dress is very casual!

1 p.m. — Live Animal Presentation

1:30 p.m.—Attending Carleton: A Question and Answer Panel for Prospective Students and their families

2:30 p.m. (approximately) ―  Explore the Oakland Zoo!

4 p.m.— Zoo Closes

Directions:  The Oakland Zoo is located at 9777 Golf Links Rd., Oakland off Highway 580.  Use Google Maps to get directions.  Public buses do not go directly to the Oakland Zoo on weekends.  The intersection of Macarthur Blvd and 98th Avenue is a 15 minute (.63 mile) walk from the zoo's entrance and is served by AC Transit lines 40, 57 and 98.  To plan your route, go to www.ACTransit.org or www.511.org.
