The Secret Life Of Film Music Orchestration
with Robert Elhai '81

Sunday, December 6, 2020
11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. CST
via Zoom

Many people have been awed and moved by the music soundtrack in film. The orchestral scores to big epic movies such as the Star Wars series have added an exciting and emotional dimension to the film-going experience. But have you ever wondered what it takes to actually get an orchestra to record that music?

This will be an inside look into how the music for a film is created and recorded. Robert will illustrate with examples of composers' sketches and finished soundtrack recordings (which often involve many sound elements besides recorded instruments) for some of his favorite projects, past and present.

Robert Elhai '81 is an award-winning music composer, orchestrator, and arranger. He has worked in a variety of genres, including theatre, opera, concert music, and over 150 film projects.
