The lecture, being held in conjunction with the DIA's special exhibit "Samurai: Beyond the Sword," is titled Martial Arts: Civil and Military Interactions in Ming Dynasty China. The relationship between samurai culture and the arts is an important part of Japanese art history. In China, however, during the Ming dynasty, military men often participated broadly in scholarly and artistic activities, while many influential literati actively engaged in pursuits associated with the warrior class.

The lecture will take place in the Marvin and Betty Danto Lecture Hall and is free with museum admission. General museum admission is $8 for adults, but free for residents of Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. Parking is available in a gated lot on John R behind the museum. Lecture attendees should use the Groups/Events entrance on John R. Directions online at  http://www.dia.org/about/.

We hope to see you there!
