London Club Talk by Macalester Prof. Mark Davis

Carleton Club Macalester Prof. Mark Davis Event

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010
7:00 pm / London

Dear Carleton Alumni in London,

Hello and a belated happy new year.

My name is Richard Allen Greene '91 and I'll be your cruise director this year -- David Rowe '67 is making his escape from London in the spring and is bowing gently out of chairing the Carleton Club here, and, since I once ducked out of town and put him in charge, he is now repaying the favor.

I'll be in touch soon with plans for events throughout the year, but first I wish to inform you of an invitation by the Macalester Alumni Club to attend an event.  (see details below)

The Macalester Alumni Club

invites you to

A Talk by Macalester Biology Professor Mark Davis

Tuesday, March 16, 2010, 7 p.m.

Christopher Ingold Building

Ramsey Lecture Theater, UCL main campus

20 Gordon Street, London, WC1H0AJ

He'll be talking about invasive species, then heading to nearby Drummond Street for Indian food(If you haven't hit Drummond Street for Indian yet, that alone is reason enough to go.)

Professor Davis is an internationally recognized ecologist.  He has received more than $800,000 in research funding from the National Science Foundation, which has supported the summer research of more than fifty Macalester students.  During the past ten years, he has focused his research and writing on invasive species.  His book on this topic, Invasion Biology, was published by Oxford University Press in January 2009.  Davis teaches Ecology, one of the courses in the Department’s core sequence, as well as courses in animal behavior and ecology, plant systematic and ecology, and conservation biology.  He received the College Science Teacher of the Year award from the Minnesota Academy of Science in 1995 and the Thomas Jefferson Award from Macalester in 2004.

Professor Davis's educational background:
AB Harvard University, 1972
EdM Harvard University, 1974
PhD Dartmouth College, 1981

If you'd like to join in the event, please RSVP to Nathan Peters and Russell Bradley-Cook.

Thanks, and look out for another email from me soon.

Best till then,

Richard Allen Greene '91
