a Lecture by Professor Fred Hagstrom

Thursday, March 22, 2012, 7 p.m.

at the home of Mark Bach ’78 & Barbara Okamoto Bach ‘78
Scotch Plains, NJ

Please join Fred Hagstrom, Rae Schupack Nathan Professor of Art, for a discussion of his artist's book, Deeply Honored, a story that links Carleton to an important historical period and a remarkable family.  On February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066, which required 120,000 Japanese and Japanese Americans to be imprisoned in internment camps. Carleton participated in the student relocation project, which allowed Japanese American students to leave internment camps and continue their educations.  Deeply Honored tells the story of Frank Shigemura, the first student to come to Carleton under that program, and his family.  Some of the art pieces from Deeply Honored will be on display during the reading.

Please bring appetizers or snacks to share. Drinks will be provided.

RSVP to Lexi Gelperin Ryan ‘05 by March 15.  (If you need assistance, contact the Alumni Relations Office at 800-729-2586 or alumni-office@carleton.edu.)
