Liberal Education behind Bars:  Teaching and Learning with the Incarcerated

Explore the transformative nature of literacy education as Professor Deborah Appleman shares her experiences teaching writing and literature at a high-security men's prison. She will touch on both the challenges and rewards of offering literacy education to the incarcerated and will present some of the work included in a creative writing anthology she and her students published, “From the Inside Out: Letters to Young Men and Other Writings” (Student Press Initiative, Teachers College, 2009).
