Bailey Ulbricht Convocation

The Honors Convocation is an annual all-college assembly that draws the campus community together to celebrate the awards and academic accomplishments of our students. This year’s address will be delivered by Bailey Ulbricht ’15.

Recipient of several academic and athletic awards as a Carleton student, Ulbricht is the founder of Paper Airplanes, a groundbreaking NGO that connects refugees around the world to college students in the United States for the purpose of educational and cultural exchange. Serving conflict-impacted students in need, the organization’s mission is to bridge gaps in language, higher education, and professional skills training by harnessing virtual learning technology and the benefits of peer-to-peer connections.

After the program was mentioned by Samantha Power, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, in a February 2016 speech, Paper Airlines grew from a Carleton-focused project to one that now includes 250 tutors from more than 100 colleges and universities across the United States.
