Please join Carleton alumni, parents, families, friends, and current and prospective students for a winter gathering. There will be an opportunity to speak with current Carleton students and hear about current happenings on campus.

This year's speaker will be Ed Bice '88. Ed is the founding CEO of Meedan. Since 2005 he has worked to creating digital tools and programs that promote collaborative verification, annotation, and translation. Ed has been a participating Council Member of the World Economic Forum, a founding partner for Electionland, and a co-Chair of the Aspen Institute USPP. Ed helped found the Credibility Coalition and Pop-Up Newsroom and has been actively involved in data and standards efforts to address misinformation at scale. Meedan's work has won two Online Journalism Awards, and numerous international accolades. He holds a US Patent on Human+Machine approach to Natural Language Translation. Ed's talk will be a reflection on Meedan's work monitoring global elections and working to build infrastructure and standards to address the perils of language and media in networked, digital settings. And there will be a rousing thesis that connects this work back to his Carleton studies.

Ed's talk will begin at 2:15 p.m., followed by a Q&A with current students and recent graduates at 3:15 p.m. Drinks and snacks will be served. We hope you can make it.

Cost: None
