Deborah Appleman, Hollis L. Caswell Professor of Educational Studies, Chair of Educational Studies, and Director of American Studies, will share her experiences teaching creative writing and other college courses at the Minnesota Correctional Facility-Stillwater, a high-security men's prison. Professor Appleman has taught there regularly since 2007 and will share the creative work of her incarcerated students as well as her own reflections about that work and about the importance of educational and creative opportunities for the incarcerated.


Presentation starts at 6:15 p.m., followed by light appetizers and beverages.

Directions: You can use Google Maps for directions. Using public transportation: Take the 6 train to 68th St/Lexington Station. Walk four blocks east to York Ave., or take the M66 bus eastbound to York Ave. Alternatively, take the Q train to 72nd Ave. Exit via 69th St., and walk two blocks east. By car: Coming from FDR North, take the 61st St. exit and make a right turn onto York Ave. Coming from FDR South, take the 71st St. exit and make a left turn onto York Ave.
