Michael Bazzett '88 will speak about winning the Linquist & Vennum Prize for Poetry, as well as share selections from "You Must Remember This," his debut collection from Milkweed Editions.

Bazzett's path as a poet has been somewhat unconventional: After graduating, he pursued a position as high school teacher, rather than following the the more typical MFA route. Largely self-schooled, he worked on his craft between hours of introducing students to the power of literature until his employer, the Blake School, offered him a transformative opportunity: A year's sabbatical in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, to simply write. Upon his return, he began to pursue poetry in earnest, achieving publication in journals like Ploughshares, Massachusett's Review, The Sun and Best New Poets. During that time, his award-wining manuscript took shape. His next book, a verse translation of the Mayan creative epic, The Popol Vuh, is forthcoming from Milkweed in 2017.

Up Next - February 11: John Trucano ’72, president of Acorn Financial Corporation, will speak on venture investing in today’s millennial-driven food industry.
