Carleton in the Capital (Carleton DC Club)

invites you to the annual

Summer Send-Off

Sunday, August 19, 2012, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Rock Creek Park Picnic Area #8, Washington, D.C.

The annual Summer Send-Off is a long time Carleton DC Alumni Club tradition. It’s our way to welcome incoming students and the best opportunity we have all year for the entire Carleton DC community to get together. We’ll provide some outdoor games (feel free to bring your own) and light refreshments.

New students and parents – Come have some fun Carleton-style before you head out to Minnesota!
Returning students & alumni – We invite you to welcome the new students to Carleton!
Parents of returning students – Welcome (and reassure) our new Carleton parents!
Alumni with children – This is a perfect event for you and your family!

Members of the incoming class of 2016 and your family members, you need not bring anything. Current students, alumni, and your families, please bring a snack to share:

Last name A-K: entrees/salads (sandwiches, salads, pasta salads, etc.)
Last name L-R:
snacks (chips, crackers, pretzels, etc.)
Last name S-Z: desserts (cookies, bars, ice cream, etc.)

The hosts will provide beverages and paper products.

RSVP via Google Form (http://bit.ly/CarletonRSVP) or by e-mail with your name, number of guests, and what you will be bringing by August 15th. Questions?  Contact Maisa Frank ’05 or Alicia Mazzara ‘06--be sure to call if you have trouble finding us on the day of the picnic.  (If you need assistance, contact the Alumni Relations Office at 800-729-2586 or alumni-office@carleton.edu.)

In case of heavy rain the event will be cancelled.

Directions

Picnic Area #8 is located just south of Sherrill Drive and Beach Drive. Please note that roads closed to cars on Sundays are marked in yellow.  Visit the National Parks Service website for a map of Rock Creek park: http://www.nps.gov/rocr/planyourvisit/upload/rocrmap1.pdf

If you are driving, there are two parking options:

1) Park in the vicinity of the Alaska Avenue and 16th Street intersection and proceed to site #8 on foot down Sherrill Drive (closed on weekends).

2) You can park at the site itself, but you will need to take a more circuitous route due to weekend road closures (for example, you might take Military Road to Beach Drive).

If you are taking public transportation, the S2/S4 (16th St Line) buses stop in front of Walter Reed Medical Center, a block north of Sherrill Drive.
