Nonprofit organizations have played an important role in Minnesota's communities—providing essential services, employing local residents, and improving the quality of life for all. Minnesota ranks at or near the top in nearly every measure of nonprofit and philanthropic activity, due to substantial donations of time and financial resources by the people of Minnesota, generous support from Minnesota's business community, and strong partnerships with state and local governments. Over 9,000 nonprofit employers throughout the state provide job opportunities to over 385,000 employees, representing 13% of the state's total workforce. Despite the sector's strength and impact, nonprofits are often misunderstood (can they make a profit?), pitted against each other for funding, and must advocate for policy issues that deeply affect them and the communities they serve. Donor Advised Funds? UBIT ya! (come to the breakfast to get the inside joke!).

Nonoko Sato '00 will give an overview of the opportunities and challenges in Minnesota's nonprofit sector, along with guidance for how to partner with nonprofits as a funder, volunteer, and supporter. Sato is the associate director at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, which involves more than 2200 member organizations and is one of the largest state nonprofit associations in the country.

No RSVP necessary to attend! And save the date for the next Breakfast Club on March 12th.
