When Spring Comes: Wildflowers and
Climate Change

Carol Trosset '81,
MN Master Naturalist Instructor

Tuesday, May 14, 2019
6:00 p.m.

The Hideaway Coffeehouse and Winebar
421 Division Street South, Northfield

Join naturalist Carol Trosset '81 to hear about how the timing of spring in nature has been changing. In the 1960s, Carol’s family restored an acre of woodland in Cincinnati Ohio and established many species of native wildflowers there. Working with 40 years of data collected by her mother, Carol will discuss how different groups of wildflowers (and a few birds and other animals) have been reacting differently to changes in the local weather.

C.O.W.S. (Conversations on the Wonders of Science) is a monthly science café in Northfield, Minnesota. C.O.W.S's goal is to engage with the public to increase scientific literacy and spread excitement about new scientific discoveries. Each month, C.O.W.S invite a local scientist to give a short, engaging talk (10-15 minutes) that is intended to spark lively discussion, so we leave plenty of time for questions and conversation (30-40 minutes). Our topics range across all scientific disciplines, from ecology to psychology to astronomy and chemistry. We hope to create an informal, casual atmosphere that encourages all participants to feel comfortable asking questions or volunteering ideas.

C.O.W.S. is organized by Rika Anderson '06, Sarah Meerts, and Laura Listenberger. Everyone is welcome! Come join us to eat, drink, and talk about the wonders of science!

Cost: Free plus food and beverages you purchase on site.
