Oregon Shakespeare Festival, 15 South Pioneer Street, Ashland, Oregon 97520

Please join Carleton alumni and parents for this special lecture and performance of Two Trains Running presented at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (www.osfashland.org). This play by August Wilson presents a searing portrait of African-American life in the ’60s telling a complex story of the inner lives of ordinary people at an explosive turning point in American history. It’s 1969, and change is in the air. But for the owner of a threadbare diner in a dying Pittsburgh neighborhood, the civil rights movement may just be an impractical dream. Torn between whether to gamble on an urban-renewal buyout or sell his building to a predatory businessman, he finds himself caught between idealism and brutal reality.

Attendees will hear from Ruth Weiner, Class of 1944 Professor of Theater and the Liberal Arts, director Lou Bellamy and cast member Jerome Preston Bates. Special thanks to Carleton trustee Carol Barnett ’86 for making this opportunity possible!

Tickets: $75 per person (includes hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and the performance). If you currently have season tickets and would like to attend the reception with Professor Ruth Weiner before the performance, please choose the reception only option for $25 per person.
