Fall Prairie Ranger Hike

Let's spend a fall afternoon in the Tallgrass Prairie at the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge!

Come at 1 p.m., bring lunch or a snack and we'll eat together at the Prairie Life Education Center.* From 2 to 3 p.m., we'll go on a ranger led nature walk through the prairie.  Wear comfortable shoes for walking, bring a bottle of water, and children are more than welcome to attend.

*If you wish to spend some time exploring the Education Center on your own, please note it will be open from 12 to 5 p.m.  For more information about the Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge, please visit www.tallgrass.org or www.fws.gov/refuge/Neal_Smith.

Directions:  Coming from EAST on I-80: take Colfax exit and go south on Iowa Highway 117, about 7 miles to Prairie City. The paved entry road is located at the southwest corner of Prairie City at the Highway 163- Prairie City Interchange.

From the WEST, at the junction of Interstate 35 and 80, go east on 80 about 3 miles to the highway 65 exit.  Take HWY 65 south to Iowa HWY 163. At HWY 163, turn east and go about 15 miles to Prairie City. The paved entry road is at the southwest corner of Prairie City and the Highway 163 - Prairie City interchange.
