“Academic Advising, Then and Now”
A Discussion with Louis Newman

Associate Dean of the College and Director of Advising

Every Carleton student has an academic adviser. A few of them—perhaps you were one—actually get the advice they need and make good use of it. But how could we prepare advisers to do their jobs better, and help students make the most of their relationships with their advisers? How should we measure the effectiveness of advising, and how can we make advising one of Carleton’s most distinguishing features?

Come learn how Carleton is rethinking its academic advising system, prompting students to reflect more deeply on their educational goals and preparing them more intentionally for life after Carleton. Louis Newman, who has been on the Carleton faculty since 1983, will offer some remarks about how advising is changing, and then facilitate a discussion and answer questions.

Please note that this event is limited to 30 participants. Purchase at Teaism is required (dinner, snack, drink, etc.).

RSVP to Jessica Goad ’07.
