January is National Anti-Human Trafficking Awareness month. Laura Garlock '12 will discuss the nature of human trafficking of immigrants in Minnesota, as well as her work with survivors of labor and sex trafficking who are applying for immigration relief. Laura is the Program Manager of Anti-Human Trafficking Services and Unaccompanied Children Services at the International Institute of Minnesota. She is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker, and her career has centered on mental health, community work, and trauma-informed case management with immigrant and refugee populations. Laura has a master’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a BA in romance languages and literature from Carleton.

The International Institute of Minnesota is a 100-year-old nonprofit that provides a wide range of services to New Americans. Through refugee services, immigration assistance, career development, and education, the Institute served 3722 New Americans from 104 countries in 2018.
